Mr. Steinberg, an alternate player in his friends’ monthly recreational
home game, had never before played in a poker tournament when he recently entered the 2006 CEO Poker Tournament at The Palms Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. After receiving much worried concern from his PWS colleagues that he should not be disappointed to lose early on due to his total lack of tournament experience, Mr. Steinberg went on to become the winner of the Day One event, besting over 30 fellow CEO’s for an outright win of the $1,500 buy-in tournament after nine hours of grueling play.
Although his victory provided an automatic $5,000 buy-in to the Day Four event, Mr. Steinberg decided it would be best to return to work, so he used his marketing skills to sell his entry to another CEO. Mr. Steinberg stated, “Although this was a tournament only for my fellow CEO’s, it took place during the week. Since my wife Rhonda, a public elementary school principal, would not give me an extended excused absence, and all of my colleagues were back in our eight offices doing the actual job of running our
business, my victory on Monday was witnessed only by my mother.” Demonstrating the high quality of play that Mr. Steinberg overcame for his victory, the CEO’s who finished third and fourth in Mr. Steinberg’s tournament went on to finish second and fifth in the Day Four event.
PWS-The Laundry Company also announced that Mr. Steinberg was celebrating his victory by sharing his winnings with the Coin Laundry Association’s recently formed charitable foundation, LaundryCares. Mr. Steinberg stated, “PWS has been a long-time active supporter of the CLA and of its mission. Today, I personally donated $2,000 to the CLA’s non-profit foundation, LaundryCares, to help support our industry’s efforts to provide much-needed laundry resources to those in need throughout the United States.”
