Black Former Prison Guard Releases Second Book

(PRWEB) May 2, 2006 -- Holding My Own is a story about how author and former Texas and Florida prison guard Tim Hampton, 31, was able to avoid the corruption that so many guards in the Texas Prison system are introduced to. Since its release in 2003 the book has made several bestseller lists and gained interests from film producers to state political figures. www.atlasbooks.com/marktplc/01594.htm

In March 2004, Mr. Hampton gained employment within the Florida prison system; the same system that a month ago, guards were caught on tape beating a 14-year-old prisoner, who later died from the injuries; and resigned his position after only 11 months and stated he had no intentions on writing a book about that state's prison system. After Hampton posted his resignation letter on his website, thousands of people worldwide wanted details as to why his Florida prison career ended so abruptly.

"I got e-mails from people all over the world, wanting details and specifics about the contents in my letter," stated Hampton, who resides in Tampa, Florida. Those details and specifics can be read in his new book entitled Still Holding My Own, which in being distributed through Atlas Books and can be purchased online by visiting www.holdingmyown.com or visiting local bookstores.

Still Holding My Own chronicles events from the end of Hampton's Texas prison guard career, to what led him to the state of Florida prison system, to his untimely resignation.

"My mission through my literature is to try and get society to understand that prison guards play the most critical role in the so-called "rehabilitation" process, and until the prison system realizes this, we could continue to witness hot check writers turn into mass murderers," said Hampton.

Many are comparing Tim Hampton to Spike Lee for his ability to focus on sensitive issues in society and the ability to deliver it in an entertaining, yet very informative story. Hampton is currently employed as a children's counselor and travels all over the country speaking to youth groups about his experiences as well as his own storied childhood.

Still Holding My Own is a highly anticipated book because it's the first time a young black male has told a story about prison, who was not an inmate.
