Though a huge number of Americans are overweight, a social stigma remains for big women. Poet Phil Moore seeks to remove this stigma with his collection of poems, Are You Fat? (Now available through AuthorHouse).
Written to inspire and uplift plus-size women, Moore’s poetry reminds big women that they are “beautiful, sexy, fantastic, attractive and terrific human beings!” The poems are also aimed at men who deny their preference for plus-sized women or have yet to see the beauty in them. Moore’s message is clear: women should be proud of their bodies, and men should be proud to love women, no matter their size.
“Plus-size women need to know they are just as beautiful, sexy and desirable as thin women,” he says. “There are a lot of men who admire the plus-size woman, and they need to know that there is no shame in being attracted to or being in love with a fat lady. Society needs to know that the way they have been treating and discriminating against fat people is wrong, causes a lot of emotional pain and is unacceptable.
The poem, “Your Fatness,” highlights all of the positive attributes of big women:
Your fatness is a beauty to behold./ Your fatness gives you strength untold./ Your fatness is heavenly and divine./ Your fatness makes you one of a kind./ Your fatness is adorable./ Your fatness makes you incomparable./ Your fatness is so soft to the touch./ Your fatness means you’ve been through so much./ Your fatness helps to make you strong./ Your fatness helps you to persevere long./ Your fatness is a gift from God above./ Your fatness makes you sexy and a joy to love. / Your fatness is to be appreciated./ Your fatness can not be abbreviated./ Your fatness is your energy./ Your fatness, use it positively./ Your fatness is your motivation./ Your fatness heightens your imagination./ Your fatness is not a stumbling block./ Your fatness is your life’s building rock./ Your fatness is not an embarrassment./ Your fatness is your passion for accomplishment./ Your fatness is not an obstacle in life’s course./ Your fatness is your overcoming force./ Your fatness is not a curse in a big size./ Your fatness is a blessing in disguise.

Moore was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., after his family immigrated there from the West Indies. Raised with a strong Christian background, he was able to overcome the problems that plague many inner-city kids. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from City College of New York. As a software engineer, he gained experience in technical writing and also wrote for the company newsletter. Attracted to plus-sized women from a young age, Moore was afraid to embrace his attraction due to social stigmas. He finally accepted the sexiness of big women, and met his beautiful plus-size wife. He calls her the “love and joy of his life.” Are You Fat? is his first book. More information is available at www.areyoufatbook.com.
